Power loss could be due to weak spark caused by loss of battery acid. Check battery and pour baking soda on everything the "water" might have touched, wait 5 minutes, then wash it off with real water.
If one or more cells in your battery are very low (less than half full) take it to a shop and have them re-fill it. Or you can take it to your friendly neighborhood chemist (if you know one) and ask him if you can "borrow" some sulfuric acid. H2SO4 used to be available at hardware stores in this country but is hard to find these days. After it's filled, put it on a trickle charger overnight.
Hope your problem is something this simple.
